Hall inducts pizza, candy magnates
Every year the Kansas Business Hall of Fame at Emporia State University honors both a historical and a contemporary Kansas business leader.
This year the winners were Pizza Hut founders Dan and Frank Carney, of Wichita, and Russell Stover Candies founders Clara and Russell Stover.
“They have made phenomenal contributions to Kansas,” Dr. Kay Schallenkamp, president of Emporia State University, said at Tuesday’s ceremony at the Kansas Expocentre. “They embody the importance of hard work and risk taking.”
The Carney brothers and Scott Ward, of Russell Stover Candies, were at the ceremony Tuesday night to accept the awards.
Past recipients of the honor include: Phil Anschutz, of Qwest Communications; Dick Davidson, chief executive officer of Union Pacific Railroad; Don Hall, of Hallmark Cards; and C.L. Brown, founder of Sprint.
