Kansas City, Kan. - Elmer C. Jackson, Jr., the movement for civil rights lawyer, was the first black member of the Kansas Board of Regents, died at the age of 86 Jackson was killed Friday and his funeral was Wednesday at the First AME Church in Kansas City, Kan.

He received the name of the law KU Alumnus of the year 1973, and was later honored with the Distinguished Service Citation, the university’s highest distinction.
A scholarship for the name of Jackson was founded in 1991 for black law students of Kansas. Mike Davis, former dean of the Law School, said Jackson was a mentor for minority students throughout his career.
Jackson leaves his wife, Lucille V. Jackson, a son, Elmer C. Jackson III of Troy, my sister, Hester Murchison-Bowman of San Diego and grandchildren.
